WOW, what can I say about my first year at the University of South Florida!
My new journey began at the beginning of August 2018, as I relocated to Tampa, Florida. It was a unique experience for me, as I had always lived in the state of Ohio. I was excited to embark on this educational journey! The Fall semester of 2018 was challenging to say the least. I was taking nine credit hours, with one being a five credit course. Fall semester taught me about myself, time management, patience, and stress management. It was a lot adapting to the graduate school flow of classes, but I prevailed and ended with an overall 3.89 GPA. My favorites courses were Issues and Concepts in Maternal/Child Health and History and Systems in Public Health. Issues and Concepts in MCH allowed me to observe community organizations with specific MCH focus. I will attach my observations from both of those experiences. I also learned a lot about the history of public health in History and Systems, which was very informational and engaging.
Moving to Spring 2019 semester, I upped my course load and had 12 credits to complete. The work was surprisingly more manageable this semester, and I got to take more courses related to my concentrations. I truly enjoyed my Reproductive and Perinatal Epidemiology course as it allowed me to narrow down my research interests to this specific area of Epidemiology. I had a lot of family and health-related issues during this semester, but I was still able to persevere and obtain a 3.75 GPA. This semester taught me the importance of stress management, which I believe I will be able to manage as the semesters continue.
I am looking forward to summer! I will be completing an internship at the Healthy Start Coalition, working on the Safe Baby Project. I will be sure to document that experience here!
